Claimed by Shadow and Embrace the Night are the two sequels to Touch the Dark (which I read, and reviewed, earlier). Well, actually, I'm not positive I reviewed Touch the Dark. ANYway, it's a series of books about Cassandra Palmer, a clairvoyant brought up by vampires. (Really.) It's really well-written, and is a good blend of LKH's Anita Blake (Vamps, Weres, Mages) and her Meredith Gentry (Fey, Seers, Prophecies) series. Unlike later AB and (early) MG books, there are only a few love interests, but the struggle (UST!) to resolve these interests is what makes the plots good. I can't say much about what happens without giving some vital plot points away, but suffice it to say that Cassie has many adventures, some vamp-influenced, some fey-influenced, and some mage-influenced. There. The books are actually really, really good--I couldn't put them down. So, if you're a fan of the Urban Fantasy genre (and Historical, to a point), then pick up this series, as it's one of the best to appear on the scenes after LKH made the way. (Note: there's some SEX in here, but definitely not to the extent of anything LKH has done. And it's REASONABLE. (OMG!))

Dragon Flight is the sequel to Dragon Slippers, and it's one of my top three favorite Dragon series of all time--not that that's saying much. Not many authors seem to take the view that dragons are cool and friendly (to some point). These two books, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, and the Dragon's Milk series are the best out there, and that's my opinion until someone does something else about it. So: suggest some good series (or single books) if you know any. (Why is it so hard to write good Dragon fiction? There's so much Fae/Vamp/Were, but so little dragon. Le sigh.) Anyway, this book follows shortly after Dragon Slippers, and concerns Creel (main character) and some more dragons. Another country has declared war on Creel's home country, but with DRAGONS instead of cavalry. Really. It's better than it sounds, and it's JFic (juvenile), so no nasty deaths here. If you like the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, this is very similar in tone/nature, but not a copycat. (EFChronicles is Dealing with Dragons, Searching for Dragons, Calling on Dragons and Talking to Dragons, as well as the short story book that accompanies it.)

Skulduggery Pleasant is another really good Jfic urban-fantasy that would work better as a teen fic, just because it's deeper and nastier than most Jfic. The main character, Stephanie, becomes friends with the titular character after her Uncle's death. Skulduggery is a magic user, and a living skeleton. This book manages to incorporate the Cthulhu mythos (really! it's a cameo, but in there) with some fae, vamp, were ideas, but it's still completely original. There's nothing else like it out there, and it deserves to be read. The main character (Stephanie, not Skulduggery) is delightfully dry and completely unruffled, even when surprising things happen. Skulduggery is wonderfully characterised, too--he reminds me of a Whedon character, but not necessarily a specific one. If just for characterisations, read this book. It's also an entertaining story, with some hints of mystery. Lovely, and I just picked up the sequel!
